Who this course is for

This comprehensive course is aimed at anybody who works with data (especially financial data) who are new to Power BI and/or have been using Power BI but want an overview of how to work with financial (accounting) data.

This will be a hands-on tutorial-style session.  Attendees will need a laptop with the latest version of Power BI Desktop installed.

Syllabus

Visualisations in Power BI Desktop based on financial data. This may include

  • The balance sheet of an asset management company

  • A market risk “backtest” report comparing financial risk and profitability for trading areas within a bank

  • Time series of the price and volume traded of a FTSE 100 company

  • Data comparing different company financial key performance numbers, e.g. revenue, profit ratio, possibly M&G and peers but possibly not, over the last few years.

Building Financial Statements in Power BI desktop focusing on:

  • Demo - financial reports + scenario planning

  • Overall Architecture and design principles

  • Building out financial statements in Power BI

  • Comparisons Actuals vs Budget and Forecast
